Consul General and the staff held an interactive session with the members of the 2601 Muthuhara Children’s Society, Milan at the Consul General’s Office on 25 May 2023.
The children of Muthuhara Society in Milan made a request to meet with the Consul General to gain an insight to the services provided and the purview of the Consulate General. The Advisor of the Muthuhara Children’s Society – Milan, Ven Pelegahathenne Seelawimala Thero, Chief Incumbent Thero of Milan Dharma Nikethanaya Temple and the President of the Muthuhara Society in Milan Harsha Jayaweera accompanied the children at the meeting.
Welcoming the children, Consul General Dilani Weerakoon briefed about the role of the Consulate General and services provided to the community and the assigned duties of the members of the staff in detail. Office-bearers and the members of the Muthuhara Society introduced themselves and interviewed the Consul General raising questions for further clarifications. On their request , the children were briefed on the procedure to enter into the Sri Lanka Foreign Service and encouraged by the Consul General to aspire to join the service. Many children opined that it would be appreciated by the community if the Consulate General could assist in an advisory capacity on common and pressing social issues afflicting the community.
Consul General stated that it was one of the proudest instances in her tenure as the Consul General to observe the professional demeanour, skills, capacity and achievements of the members of the Muthuhara Society and she is confident that the children will grow up to be exemplary citizens among the Sri Lankan community in Italy. Consul General further commended the voluntary service of the President of the Society in steering the society as well as the children in the right direction.
The meeting was conducted in a cordial as well as a formal manner to provide the children with an exposure to formal interactions with officials. At the end of the meeting tokens of appreciation were presented. Following the formal session, children and the administrative members of the Society engaged in friendly informal interactions over dinner prepared by the members of the staff.
