The Consul General of Sri Lanka in Toronto Thushara Rodrigo participated in the foundation laying ceremony for the construction of the new residence for Maha Sangha of the Toronto Maha Vihara on 21 July 2024. The construction will be completed with the support of the donors of the Sri Lankan Canadian community.
At the ceremony attended by the Chief Incumbents of several other Buddhist Temples in Toronto and the members of the Sri Lankan Canadian Community, the Consul General said that the Toronto Maha Vihara, established in 1978, is the first Theravada Buddhist Temple in Canada. He appreciated the pivotal role and community services of the Chief Incumbent, Most Venerable Ahangama Rathanasiri Maha Thero and the Maha Sangha of Toronto Maha Vihara in strengthening the unity of the Sri Lankan Canadian community in Toronto.
