Consul General of Sri Lanka meets with Global Victoria

The Consul General of Sri Lanka for Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, Pradeepa Saram met with the Director, Global Engagement and Global Victoria / Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions, Ema Lawrence, to discuss avenues on strengthening bilateral trade, tourism, sports and education partnerships.

Discussions also touched on the current trade relationship between Sri Lanka and Victoria, and the role the tourism and education sectors can play in expanding it. Sri Lanka stands out as one of Victoria’s key education markets, with strong enrolments in Victoria and partnerships with Sri Lankan entities to deliver courses in market for both universities and TAFE providers.

Given Victoria’s position as the home to Australia’s largest Sri Lankan community, logistics, food & fibre, digital economy and professional services were noted as potential areas for deeper cooperation between Sri Lanka and Victoria.

It was noted that Sri Lankan Airlines, by operating daily flights between Colombo and Melbourne that support business, tourism, and education, has contributed to expanding trade, tourism and people-to-people links.

The Consul General was accompanied by Consul, Fazil Farook, while the Director, Global Engagement was joined by the Senior Regional Manager South Asia and META, Global Engagement, James Edwards.
