Consul General of Sri Lanka in Toronto Thushara Rodrigo met with Lieutenant Governor of Ontario Edith Dumont at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario on 18 March 2024.
The Consul General briefed the Lieutenant Governor on the multicultural nature of the Sri Lankan Canadian community in Toronto which reflects a cross-section of the diverse community in Sri Lanka.
He further conveyed to the Lieutenant Governor that Sri Lanka is gradually progressing towards economic stability and emerging as a potential maritime hub in the Indian Ocean.
He also briefed the Lieutenant Governor on Sri Lanka's initiatives to strengthen democracy through required reforms and the progress made so far towards ethnic reconciliation. The Consul General further highlighted that the increasing frequent visits and economic engagements of the Sri Lankan Canadians with the island have made a positive impact on people-to-people ties of the two countries.
The Lieutenant Governor of Ontario commended the contribution of the Sri Lankan Canadian Community to the economic development and cultural diversity of Canada. She further stated that the shared values and the vision of the Commonwealth have provided a broader space for the two countries to further strengthen friendly relations.
