The staff of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bahrain celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year together with the members of the Sri Lankan community in Bahrain on 15 April 2023 at the Embassy premises.
During the event, the Sinhala and Tamil New Year message of President Ranil Wickremesinghe (English language) was read by Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Bahrain H.M.G.R.R.K. Wijeratne Mendis while the President’s New Year messages in Sinhala and Tamil languages were read by Thushara Gallage and Thiagarajah Ramaratnam from the Sri Lankan community in Bahrain.
Stressing the importance of the traditional New Year and community, Ambassador Wijeratne Mendis stated that the values of national unity and reconciliation among communities are essential for Sri Lanka's development and progress. She invited the Sri Lankan community in Bahrain to join hands in a spirit of goodwill and partnership to contribute towards the implementation of the policies and programmes of the Government of Sri Lanka for the development and progress of the country. Ambassador Wijeratne Mendis requested the assistance of the Sri Lankan professionals in Bahrain to secure job opportunities for Sri Lankans and to work towards enhancing remittances.
Traditional Sri Lankan New Year food including Kiribath was served at the event.
