The 66th Independence Day of Sri Lanka was celebrated at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jordan with the participation of the Sri Lankans in Jordan.
H.E. Mr. Gamini Rajapakse, Ambassador, hoisted the National Flag at the commencement of the programme and the National Anthem was sung by the gathering. Thereafter the Traditional Oil lamp was lighted by the invitees while the Magul Bera was played.
Addressing the gathering H.E. the Ambassador emphasized the significance of the freedom which Sri Lanka gained after the defeat of separatist terrorism and the rapid developments in Sri Lanka’s major areas such as ports, airports, highways, power and energy. During the speech he conveyed blessings to His Excellency the President, to continue his great services for the people of Sri Lanka with enhanced strength.
The National Day Messages of the President His Excellency Mahinda Rajapakse were read by H.E. the Ambassador and the members of the Staff of the Embassy.
At the conclusion of the programme the invitees was treated with traditional food items of Sri Lanka which was arranged by the staff of the Embassy.
A Diplomatic gathering was organized at Amman Le Meridian Hotel in the evening of 4th February 2014 and Sri Lankan cultural dances were performed by a group of Sri Lankans.
