The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the State of Qatar celebrated Sri Lanka’s 76th Anniversary of Independence with a diplomatic reception on 28 February 2024 at The Westin Doha Hotel & Spa. A large number of Ambassadors and diplomats based in Qatar, senior officials, business leaders and members of Overseas Sri Lankan [OSL] community attended the event.
The presence of Minister of Labour of the State of Qatar Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri, , and Director of the Department of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State of Qatar Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, as chief guests, added considerable significance to the occasion.
The ceremony was officially inaugurated with singing of the National Anthems and Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the State of Qatar Mohamed Mafaz Mohideen, addressed the gathering. In his remarks, Ambassador Mohamed Mafaz Mohideen underscored the event's theme, “Let's Build a New Country,” emphasizing the collective desire to create a prosperous Sri Lanka through the strengthening of bilateral relations. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to all attendees and reaffirmed the Embassy’s unwavering commitment to enhancing ties with the host country and the international community at large.
The evening unfolded with a captivating showcase of vibrant Sri Lankan culture, featuring traditional dances and music performed by the students of the Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha [SSLSD]. This cultural experience was complemented by the delightful flavors of Sri Lankan cuisine, creating an atmosphere of shared joy and cultural experience.
