Sri Lanka Embassy in Washington DC celebrates Sri LankaÂ’s 62 years of Independence

The 62nd Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka celebration was held at the Wheaton, Md. High School Auditorium on February 13, 2010.The highlight of the program, as the audience had anticipated, was a spectacular performance by internationally renowned Channa Upuli, the leading dance group in Sri Lanka. The dancers provided more than two hours of traditional and modern renditions, often accompanied by a lone drummer.

The Embassy in The Hague celebrates 62nd Anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka

The 62nd Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka was commemorated by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in The Hague. The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag of Sri Lanka by Ambassador Grace Asirwatham on 4th February morning at the Embassy premises followed by singing of the National Anthem and observance of two minutes silence to remember with gratitude those who laid down their lives to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

The 62nd National Day Celebrations Sri Lanka Embassy, Beirut

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Lebanon celebrated the 62nd National Day in the morning of 04th February 2010 at the Embassy premises. The official function commenced, after hoisting the national flag by the Ambassador in the presence of all religious representatives, Embassy staff, Sri Lankan community and representatives of Sri Lanka Associations in Lebanon. After observing a two minute silence in gratitude of our national heroes, religious observances of all religions were conducted.

Independence celebrated in Bahrain amidst huge gathering of Sri Lankans

For the first time ever, the “Sri Lanka’s National Day” was celebrated in an unprecedented scale by the Sri Lankan community in Bahrain on 12th February 2010 at the Indian School in Isa Town, with the presence of distinguished guests from the Bahraini Government, members of the Diplomatic & Consular Corps, the international community and a large gathering of Sri Lankans well over 1200.
