The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Guangzhou in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) organized Sri Lanka’s participation at the Guangzhou International Travel Fair (GITF) from 25th – 27th February 2016 at the Canton Exhibition grounds in Guangzhou.
Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera was in Washington DC on 25 and 26 February for the inaugural US – Sri Lanka Partnership Dialogue. The Partnership Dialogue is a regular policy consultation designed to discuss and identify opportunities for cooperation across the full range of bilateral and regional issues.
Sri Lanka and the Philippines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Manila on Wednesday 03 February 2016 aimed at forging greater cooperation and further enhancing relations between the two countries with the Philippines’ Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert F. Del Rosario stating that the MoU was “an important step towards further deepening the Philippines’ engagement with Sri Lanka.”
Ambassador Tilak Ranaviraja presented his credentials to Mr. Taleb Rifal, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on 22nd January 2016 in Madrid.
High Commissioner Somasundaram Skandakumar presented credentials to His Excellency Major General (ret’d) Jioji Konousi Konrote, the President of the Republic of Fiji in Suva on 28th January 2016.
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Indonesia, Dharshana M. Perera presented Credentials to the President of Indonesia Ir.H. Joko Widodo at the Istana Merdeka (Merdeka Palace) in Jakarta on Wednesday 3rd February 2016.
The Vietnamese hailed the visit of Dr. Harsha de Silva, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, especially noting that it is the first high level bilateral visit to Viet Nam since President Maithripala Sirisena assumed office on 8th January 2015.
