The Canadian authorities refused to comment on reports that Sri Lanka has sought the arrest and extradition of an LTTE convict believed to be living in Canada.

A spokesperson at the Canadian Justice Ministry refused to confirm or deny if Sri Lanka had made such a request.

The police had last week said that it has sought the arrest of an LTTE convict said to be in Canada and INTERPOL assistance has been sought in this regard.

A warrant for the arrest of KanagarajahRavishankar had been issued by the Vavuniya High Court over his alleged links to the LTTE.

Police spokesman SSP AjithRohana said that an INTERPOL ‘Red Notice’ has been issued for the arrest of the LTTE convict and measures will be taken to bring him to Sri Lanka from Canada.

When contacted by The Sunday Leader, the Canadian Justice Ministry said Canada does not comment on such cases.

“Extradition requests to/from Canada are confidential state-to-state communications. As such, we are not in a position to confirm or deny a request was made on this or any other matter,” Carole Saindon, Media Relations officer at the Canadian Justice Ministry told The Sunday Leader.

AjithRohana said that Ravishankar was a onetime ship captain and transported weapons by sea to the LTTE during the war.
