Sri Lanka is participating at the Dutch Tourism Expo “Vakentiebeurs 2011”, which is being held from 11th to 16th January, 2011 in Utrecht, in The Netherlands.
The “Vakentiebeurs” is a popular tourism trade fair in the Benelux region which has been held in The Netherlands since 1970. This is the 29th time that Sri Lanka is taking part in the fair as organized by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau in close coordination with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in The Hague.
Minister of Public Relations and Public Affairs, Dr. Mervin Silva, donated two human eye corneas to the Government of Myanmar during his visit from 29th December 2010 - 1st January 2011 to mark the friendship between the two countries.
Consequent to an invitation extended by Mr. Suswono, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister of Plantation Industries, paid an official visit to Indonesia from 2nd to 4th January 2011. The Minister was accompanied by Mr. P.L.U. Dissanayake, Additional Secretary (Development), Ministry of Plantation Industries of Sri Lanka, Prof. H.P.M. Gunasena, Chairman, Coconut Research Institute (CRI), Dr. S.S.B.D.G. Jayawardena, Chairman, Tea Research Institute, and Dr. H.A.J. Gunatilleke, Officer in charge of the Oil Palm Division in CRI.
A 10-member team of students of the Holy Family Convent, Jaffna visited India under the student exchange programme of the India-Sri Lanka Foundation. The team arrived in India on December 10, 2010 and concluded the tour on December 18, 2010. The student team was accompanied by the Principal of the school Sister Mary T Ladislaus and Mrs Y J Anna Maria Josephine, a teacher.
Sri Lanka High Commission in London celebrated Christmas today, 23 December 2010, with the participation of Sri Lankans living in the UK representing Christians as well as Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims.
Sri Lanka Embassy in The Hague celebrated Christmas at the Embassy premises on 18th December 2010. The event was held in keeping with the tradition of celebrating the important festivals of all religions practiced in Sri Lanka in order to promote friendship among the community members.
