First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa stated that the women of Sri Lanka and China have worked together and co-operated on many endeavors in implementing initiatives taken for the advancement of women of the two countries. She made these observations at a bilateral meeting held with Madam Chen Zhili, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and the President of the All-China Women’s Federation (ACWF). The meeting followed the International Women’s Day Celebration held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on 8th March 2011 to which the First Lady of Sri Lanka had been invited as a special guest by the ACWF.

Sri Lanka’s First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa speaking at the ‘Sri Lanka – the Wonder of Asia’ cultural evening organized in Beijing said that the cultural interactions provide a perfect setting to develop peace, harmony and friendship between countries and through this concert, it is Sri Lanka’s intention to present to the people of Beijing a glimpse of the rich and diverse cultural traditions of Sri Lanka.

The Editor cum Treasurer of Palestine Society for Tourist and Travel Agents (PSTTA), Ms. Suhaila Yousif Presented a copy of the first issue of the Society’s publicity magazine to Dr. T. Jayasinghe, Representative of Sri Lanka in Palestine at the Sri Lanka Representative Office in Ramallah.

Tamara Kunanayakam, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Cuba, paid her last respects to Alberto Granado, Argentinean born biochemist, long time friend and companion of Ernesto “Che” Guevara, who passed away on  5 March 2011, at the age of 88. Alberto Granado was a great admirer of Sri Lanka and its unrelenting quest for a just world order through the Non-Alignment Movement. .

Preparations are being finalized for the holding of the Quasimodo Fair in Argentan, Normandie in April this year at which Sri Lanka is to be featured as the Guest-of-Honour.
