Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Austria extended an open invitation to Austrian tech founders, startup leaders, and innovation stakeholders to collaborate with Sri Lanka’s dynamic technology and entrepreneurship landscape, highlighting Sri Lanka’s credentials as South Asia’s emerging hub for cross-border innovation, its growing startup ecosystem, and the wealth of opportunities available in the sector. The Ambassador made these comments addressing a networking event “Beyond Beaches and Tea-Tech Sri Lanka”, organized by Resource Connect Services (RCS) on 22 May 2025 in Vienna.
Commending the initiative, the Ambassador described RCS’s efforts as a strong example of expatriate-led economic diplomacy, promoting both digital exports and Sri Lanka’s national brand. He outlined the capabilities of Sri Lanka’s IT and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector, emphasizing the government’s strategic focus on its growth and the sector’s attractiveness to foreign investors. He also pointed out the potential areas for enhanced cooperation such as knowledge exchange, skills development, and collaborative ventures in BPO and tech innovation. He invited Austria’s IT and BPO stakeholders to attend “Disrupt Asia 2025,” Sri Lanka’s premier ICT conference, scheduled to take place in September 2025 in Colombo.
In his address CEO of RCS, Ranil Samarawickrema noted that the event was not just about outsourcing. “It’s about helping Europe discover the full spectrum of Sri Lankan excellence and building a broader, more modern brand for Sri Lanka,” he added. The event also spotlighted several structural challenges within Europe’s tech industry, such as developer shortages, migration-related hurdles, and sustainability concerns, while positioning Sri Lanka as a scalable, ethical, and future-ready partner for long-term collaboration.
