On 17 December 2019, Ambassador Saroja Sirisena presented Letters of Credence to Her Excellency Zuzana Čaputová, President of the Slovak Republic at the Presidential Palace in Bratislava accrediting her as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to the Slovak Republic.
The ceremony entailed a Guard of Honour of the Slovak Armed Forces, presentation of the Letters of Credence and discussion with President Zuzana Čaputová and her entourage. The Ambassador was accompanied by Second Secretary of the Embassy Mahesh Mahakumarage.
During the discussion, Ambassador Saroja Sirisena conveyed greetings of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and recalled the high level bilateral visits both to the Slovak Republic and to Sri Lanka. President Čaputová reciprocated her greetings to her Sri Lankan counterpart and expressed her interest to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. The President commended the heightened popularity of Sri Lanka as a tourist destination.
The Ambassador highlighted the business friendly environment of the country and drew attention to the growing interest of the international business community to invest in Sri Lanka. Ambassador Sirisena further elaborated on new opportunities and areas of mutual cooperation and highlighted future prospects of newly built state-of-the-art infrastructure schemes governed by modern investor friendly policy and legal framework.
The Sri Lanka Embassy in Austria is concurrently accredited to the Slovak Republic.
