Ambassador Mahinda Samarasinghe hosted an Iftar dinner at his residence with the participation of Muslims of Sri Lankan origin on 04 April 2023. The program started with the recitation of Iftar Dua and prayers and breaking fast.
Welcoming the guests Ambassador Samarasinghe said that he was happy to host the Iftar dinner as a mark of solidarity and respect for the religious and cultural traditions of Sri Lankan Muslims living in the US. Ambassador Samarasinghe also mentioned the significance of Iftar during the holy month of Ramadan and the importance of religious co-existence and mutual respect for the diversity that is part of the social fabric of Sri Lanka.
Representing the Muslim community in the US, Vazir Muhsin and Kamil Ismail thanked Ambassador Samarasinghe for the thoughtful initiative in hosting the Iftar dinner and expressed the hope that this would be a tradition that would be followed in future.
The event was attended by the Muslim community in the US and officials from the US Department of State.
