Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Saudi Arabia Omar Lebbe Ameer Ajwad, met with Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, on 12 September 2024. The meeting fostered discussions on avenues for further enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
Extending a warm welcome to the Ambassador to the Kingdom, Minister Saleh Al-Jasser emphasized the importance of enhancing connectivity between the two countries in all aspects.
Ambassador Ameer Ajwad highlighted Sri Lanka’s recent decision to facilitate visa free travel to Sri Lanka for Saudi nationals with a view to enhancing people to people connectivity and also the suggested resumption of Saudi Airlines' operations to Sri Lanka. Moreover, the Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the unstinted support extended by the General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA) of Saudi Arabia for the daily air operations between the two countries conducted by Sri Lankan Airlines. Strategies to promote enhanced air and shipping connectivity between the two countries were also explored during the discussion.
Minister Saleh currently chairs a number of councils and committees: Chairman of the General Authority for Civil Aviation; Chairman of SAUDIA; Chairman of Transport General Authority; Chairman of the Saudi Ports Authority; and Chairman of the Saudi Railways Company (SAR); and Vice Chairman of the Industrial Development and Logistics Program Committee.
The Ambassador was accompanied by Minister / Head of Chancery of the Sri Lanka Embassy in Riyadh Mohamed Anas to the meeting.
