Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Stockholm, Kapila Fonseka presented his credentials to King Harald V of the Kingdom of Norway in Oslo last week, assuming his duties as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Norway, with residence in Stockholm. Presenting the credentials, Ambassador Fonseka conveyed warm greetings from President Anura Kumara Disanayaka to King Harald V of Norway.
During his visit to Oslo for the presentation of credentials, Ambassador Fonseka held a series of meetings with senior officials of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other key institutions. The discussions held focused on exploring opportunities to further strengthen the bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Norway. Notably, the Ambassador engaged with senior officials of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry’s Department for Regional Affairs as well as the Trade Policy and Economic Analysis, exploring potential avenues of enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in light of the 75th anniversary of Sri Lanka-Norway bilateral relations. .
The Ambassador also visited Norfund, where he held discussions with senior officials, including the Regional Manager for Asia. Norfund has maintained a long term partnership with Sri Lanka, supporting Sri Lanka’s development trajectory.
The Ambassador also held meetings with Oslo Chamber of Commerce, Norwegian digital industry association IKT Norway, the SriLankan Airlines Norway Country Manager, Jelena Boskovic, as well as Norwegian investors involved in various sectors in Sri Lanka, including IT and fisheries.
The Ambassador also met with representatives of the Sri Lankan community in Oslo and attended the 77th Independence Day celebration of Sri Lanka, organized by the Sri Lanka Associations in Norway. Addressing the gathering at the event, the Ambassador invited them to actively engage and contribute to Sri Lanka’s development, with a particular focus on the Clean Sri Lanka National Programme.
Moreover, during his visit to Norway, the Ambassador visited the city of Kristiansand to explore trade and investment opportunities for Sri Lanka. He was warmly received by Deputy Mayor of Kristiansand, Charlotte Beckmann Finnestad, accompanied by Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Kristiansand, Kurt Mosvold. He also met with local business leaders interested in investing in Sri Lanka, as well as philanthropists with long-standing connections to Sri Lanka through various assistance projects. In honour of the visiting Ambassador, the national flag of Sri Lanka was hoisted by the Kristiansand Municipality at the city hall.
Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Bergen, Sturle Pedersen and Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Kristiansand, Kurt Mosvold accompanied the Ambassador during his visit to Norway.
