Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar meets with the Chief Minister and the Mayor of Yangon, Myanmar

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar, Prabashini Ponnamperuma held meetings with the Chief Minister of Yangon Region, U Soe Thein and Mayor and Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC), U Bo Htay on 30 October 2024 in Yangon, Myanmar.

Discussions were centered mainly on enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the trade, economic and investment sectors. Accordingly, the requirement for the expansion of the existing long standing and cordial relations between the two countries towards collaboration in the investment and trade sectors was highlighted, while reminiscing about the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Myanmar.

The Chief Minister pointed out the immense potential available in the Yangon region for investments, and invited Sri Lankan investors to invest in Yangon, under the facilitation of the Regional Government. Furthermore, prospects for developing religious tourism, especially around important places of worship in both Sri Lanka and Myanmar were discussed.

Several other Ministers of the Yangon Region Government Office, including Minister for Border Affairs, Colonel Win Tint; Minister for Economy, U Myo Myint Aung; Minister for Natural Resources, U Zaw Win; Minister for Social Affairs, U Htay Aung; Minister for Transport, U Kyaw Kyaw Soe; Minister for Ethnic Affairs, U Saw Jack Kaw Htoo; Attorney General Phyu Mar Wai; Secretary (Yangon Region Government Office) U Khin Maung San; and Director (Yangon Region Government Office) U Ye Htoo also participated in the meeting.
