The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Jordan J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara, paid a visit to the United Creation L.L.C. garment factory in Dulayl, on 09 September 2024. The United Creation L.L.C. garment factory in Dulayl employs more than 1300 Sri Lankans who constitute 30% of its total labor force.
The Director of Operations of the factory Shankar Sirinivasan welcomed Ambassador Wijegunasekara. He also acknowledged the skills and experience of the Sri Lankan workforce and expressed his consent to offer more job opportunities to Sri Lankans.
Addressing the top management of the company, Ambassador Priyangika Wijegunasekara appreciated the company for the great opportunities it has offered to the Sri Lankan workforce and its willingness to recruit more Sri Lankans in the near future. The Ambassador also stressed the need for all Sri Lankans to glorify Sri Lanka’s image by adhering to the rules and regulations of the host country and highlighted the importance of sending foreign remittances to Sri Lanka through appropriate channels.
Interacting with Sri Lankans, the Ambassador reiterated the importance of having close contact with the Embassy and their relatives back home.
During the interactive session Counsellor, SLBFE (Employment & Welfare) G.R.S. Gunawardana delivered a presentation on Human Smuggling, Trafficking, and Safe Migration. Another presentation on the Consular Functions of the Mission was conducted by Consular Officer H.P. Liyanage. Moreover, the Bank of Ceylon Representative in Jordan Idunil Wickramasinghe educated the Sri Lankan workers on effective ways of sending remittances, opening new accounts, etc.
In addition, necessary consular assistance was extended, and the welfare and safety of the Sri Lankan employees in the factory were ensured during the visit.
The visit also reaffirmed the commitment of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Amman to ensure close coordination between the top management and the Sri Lankan employees of the factory.
