On January 22, 2019 Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Moscow Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka paid a courtesy call on his Philippine counterpart, Carlos D Sorreta, a veteran diplomat, who was the Deputy Permanent Representative at the Philippine Mission to the United Nations in New York and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC.
The Ambassadors discussed the recent 5-day state visit of the President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena to Philippines, during which the two leaders signed five agreements, including pacts on agriculture, education, cooperation and military exchanges. The Heads of Mission recalled that 2019 marks the 10th anniversary of the victory over terrorism in Sri Lanka and underscored the similar experiences Sri Lanka and Philippines had in their history with the problem of terrorism.
The Ambassadors spoke about foreign policy and the necessity of a legal, political, dialogue framework to approach security issues in the Asian region.
