Ambassador E. Rodney M. Perera Commends Japanese Artist Toshiro Kurihara’s Solo Exhibition of Paintings Depicting Sri Lanka at Gallery Bian in Ginza

Ambassador E. Rodney M. Perera visited the remarkable solo exhibition of  Toshiro Kurihara, a distinguished 90-year-old Japanese artist who worked as a primary school teacher.  The exhibition, hosted at Gallery Bian in Ginza, is open for public viewing from August 8 to 13.

Mr. Kurihara's exhibition is testimony to his deep admiration for Sri Lanka, inspired and supported by his son, Dr. Shunsuke Kurihara, Associate Professor at Utsunomiya University, who resided in the country for 13 years. During his stay, Shunsuke extensively explored Sri Lanka's landscapes and cultures, capturing their essence through the lens of his camera.  Those captured moments served as inspiration for Toshiro Kurihara's artwork on display.

The exhibition showcases around 10 exquisite artworks that capture Sri Lanka's diverse beauty.  Through his paintings, Kurihara brings to life Sri Lankan children, landscapes, and wedding scenes.  Notably, his artistry shines through in his portrayal of the people and children amidst the lush tea plantations.

Ambassador Perera expressed his heartfelt appreciation for Kurihara's dedication to bridging cultures through his art.  The Ambassador emphasized that these artworks serve as a harmonious testament to the enduring friendship between Japan and Sri Lanka, encapsulating the shared values of creativity and mutual understanding.
