Ambassador- designate of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman,  Omar Lebbe Ameerajwad Assumes  Duties

Omar Lebbe Ameerajwad, Ambassador- designate of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman arrived in Muscat on 10th July 2019 and assumed duties at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Muscat in a simple ceremony.

Addressing the staff, Ambassador-designate Ameerajwad recalled historical relations between Sri Lanka and the Sultanate of Oman and set out his targets including promotion of tourism, trade, investment and employment opportunities, in further strengthening relations between the two countries.

Ambassador-designate Ameerajwad joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1998 and has served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Director General for East Asia and Pacific Affairs, Director for Middle East and African Affairs and the Desk Officer for the 4th and 5th Council of Ministers Meetings and Other related meetings of the Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-RAC) hosted by Sri Lanka in 2003 and 2004 consecutively.

His assignments overseas include Sri Lanka Embassy in Riyadh, Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in Geneva, Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka in Chennai as well as  Sri Lanka High Commission in Singapore.  Prior to his appointment as the Ambassador- designate to Oman, Ameerajwad served as the Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Singapore and Brunei Darussalam.

Ambassador-designate Ameerajwad holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts from the University of Peradeniya and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Colombo.  He also holds a Masters Degree in Laws (LLM) from the University of Colombo.  He was admitted to the Bar as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 1997.
