On Saturday 30th June 2012, Ambassador Dayan Jayatilleka and Madam Sanja Jayatilleka participated as special guests at the award of year end certificates to Tamil students based in Bondy, France.
The event which was organized by the association Liens et Cultures (Links and Cultures) headed by Mr. Sivananthan Rajendram and the Bondy Mairie (town council) took place at the Bondy Town Council.
Created in 2008, Liens et Cultures aims at encouraging intercultural relations among the Tamil community based in Bondy by providing French, English and Tamil language classes, as well as dance classes for both children and adults.
The convivial and colorful multicultural event comprised various traditional dances and singing performances by the children of the association. Traditional Sri Lankan food and refreshments were also served.
Participating in the event for the second consecutive year, Ambassador Jayatilleka appreciated both “the courage and the generosity of spirit of the association for inviting him on this occasion”. After congratulating the students on their achievement, Dr. Jayatilleka also stressed the important role played by Liens et Cultures in promoting pluralism and cultural diversity among children of the Tamil community in Bondy.
Mrs. Sylvine Thomassin -Mayor of Bondy, Deputy Daniel Goldberg, Mr. Sivananthan Rajendram, President of the Association Liens et Cultures, municipal counselor Mrs. Lilawtee Rajendram and several other counselors of the local municipality of Bondy were also present on the occasion and participated in the distribution of certificates.
