The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Toronto, in partnership with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and the Association of Canadian Travel Agencies and Travel Advisors (ACTA), successfully conducted a tourism promotional webinar titled “Sri Lanka – One Island, A Thousand Journeys” on 24 February 2026.
The one-hour webinar attracted the participation of 89 Canadian travel agents, underscoring the growing interest within the Canadian travel trade in Sri Lanka as a distinctive and high-value travel destination.
Addressing the participants, Consul (Commercial) Yasoji Gunawardana delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting Sri Lanka’s diverse and authentic travel experiences. The presentation showcased the island’s rich natural landscapes, UNESCO-listed heritage sites, abundant wildlife, pristine beaches, adventure tourism offerings, and wellness and Ayurveda retreats, all within a compact and easily accessible destination.
Canada continues to demonstrate strong potential as a source market for Sri Lanka tourism, particularly among affluent travellers seeking authentic, experiential, and exotic journeys. In 2025, Canada ranked 13th among Sri Lanka’s source markets, with 46,133 Canadian travellers visiting the island.
Building on the success of this webinar, Sri Lanka Tourism plans to conduct a series of targeted promotional initiatives throughout 2026 in collaboration with ACTA and Canadian travel industry stakeholders. These efforts aim to deepen engagement with the Canadian market and position Sri Lanka as a must-visit destination in Asia for Canadian travellers.
