The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Melbourne relocated to a new premise with enhanced facility at 432, (Level 9) St. Kilda Road, VIC 3004, officially opening on 23 February 2026.
The inauguration ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Consul General of Sri Lanka for Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, Pradeepa Saram. This was followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Multi-faith observances were conducted by religious dignitaries representing the Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, and Islamic faiths to invoke blessings.
Addressing the gathering Consul General Pradeepa Saram expressed appreciation to the Foreign Ministry, all service providers, volunteers and members of the Sri Lankan community who contributed to making the relocation a resounding success with upgraded facilities for the visiting public and improving efficacy in consular service delivery.
Federal member for Holt, Cassandra Fernando, Government Whip in the Legislative Council, Lee Tarlamis MP, Government Whip in the Legislative Assembly, Pauline Richards MP, MP for Narre Warren South, Gary Maas and Liberal State Member for South Eastern Metropolitan, Ann-Marie Hermans MP graced the occasion and commended the upgraded facilities available in the new Chancery premises ensuring public convenience and projecting Sri Lankan identity & image in Victoria.
The new premises consist of improvements to public waiting area with adequate seating facilities & clearer service signage, improved reception area, dedicated consular service counters reducing waiting times, upgraded communication & networking system and advance surveillance system augmenting consular service delivery efficiency.
Under the guidance of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arun Hemachandra, a special program has been implemented by the Overseas Assets Management & Development Division of the Ministry, utilizing available budgetary allocations in the financial year 2025, to strengthen and upgrade the service delivery of Consular Sections at Sri Lanka Missions/ Posts abroad.
Victoria has the largest overseas Sri Lankan community outside Sri Lanka and the Consulate is one of the highest consular delivering stations among Sri Lanka Missions/ Posts abroad.
