Independence celebrations promotes trade, investment, tourism and culture in Beijing

The Diplomatic Reception celebrating the 78th National Independence Day of Sri Lanka was held at St Regis Beijing with the participation of the Diplomatic community, government officials, leaders of state-owned enterprises, Heads of Universities, Think Tanks, representatives of Tourism sectors, cultural and other organizations.

Mr. Liu Jinsong, Director General of the Asian Affairs Department from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs represented the Government of the People’s Republic of China. Deputy Mayor of Pinnguo District, Provincial Leaders, Officials from the Provincial Foreign Affairs Officers and other line agencies were among the other Chinese leaders who participated at the celebrations.

The celebration of Sri Lanka’s Independence showcased the nation’s rich opportunities in trade, investment, tourism, and culture, inviting Chinese nationals to explore and enjoy all it has to offer. The Diplomatic Reception embodied the essence of Sri Lanka, from its distinctive beverages to its authentic cuisine, creating a truly immersive experience.

Ambassador Majintha Jayesinghe in his speech stated that the 4th of February, marks our country’s achievement of sovereign independence. Welcoming the joyous occasion, he  mentioned that  it was a privilege to recall the long and highly cherished special relationship which exist between    Sri Lanka and China since ancient times.

It was also notable that Ceylon Tea infused wines from Helanhong Winery in the Ningxia Autonomous Region were also  launched at the celebrations.

World renowned Ceylon Tea was served to the guests from 7 Agro Climatic Regions and also presented a giveaway gift pack of Basilur Tea.

Sri Lanka was able to promote the 8 UNESCO Heritage sites and the 8 themes of tourism namely Bliss, Essence, Festive, Heritage, Wild, Pristine, Scenic and Thrills, giving a special impetus to the destination Sri Lanka in China.

Guests were treated to iconic Sri Lankan products—from Lion Beer and Elephant House soft drinks to the renowned Ceylon cinnamon tea—offering them a chance to savor the country’s distinctive flavors.They were also able to flavour authentic Sri Lankan cuisine together with the mesmerizing traditional dance by the Channa - Upuli dance troupe with their seamless techniques, precision, energy, style and creating a truly Sri Lankan ambiance.
