A Post-Flood Travel and Tourism briefing session was held on 17 December 2025 at the High Commission premises to update Singapore’s travel, trade and media stakeholders on the current situation in Sri Lanka following recent adverse weather conditions.
The event was organised by the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), to update relevant stakeholders and promote Sri Lanka as a safe and welcoming destination.
The session was conducted in hybrid mode, and the members of the National Association of Travel Agents (NATAS), representatives from Singapore’s travel and tourism industry, and media attended physically, while the officials of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), the SriLankan Airlines Country Manager for Malaysia and Singapore, as well as Singapore-based travel agents, joined virtually.
In his opening remarks, High Commissioner Senarath Dissanayake welcomed participants and highlighted that Singapore has remained one of Sri Lanka’s most important source markets in Southeast Asia, with travellers showing strong interest in Sri Lanka’s diverse tourism offerings, including culture, heritage, wellness, nature, and adventure tourism. He said that the tourism activities are expected to return to their pre-flood capacity soon.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Buddhika Hewawasam in his statement, reassured stakeholders that the vast majority of Sri Lanka’s principal tourist regions, as well as all international gateways, continue to operate normally, ensuring uninterrupted access for visitors. He also highlighted the safety measures in place for tourists, including the availability of accommodations, tourism services, transportation connectivity, and preparedness measures to address potential weather-related risks.
An update on the post-flood ground situation and tourism readiness was delivered by Deputy Director – Marketing, SLTPB, Chinthaka Liyanaarachchi. The presentation covered key aspects, including the current flood situation, districts affected, availability of tourist facilities and accommodations, safety measures, and transport connectivity by road, rail, and air.
Following the presentations, an interactive Q&A session was facilitated by Minister/Head of Chancery, Ahamed Razee and Minister Counsellor (Commercial), Bhagya Abeykoon, allowing participants to seek clarifications and engage directly with Sri Lankan tourism authorities. At the conclusion of the session, participants were served refreshments featuring a selection of Sri Lankan cuisine.
