
Sri Lankan Embassy in Cairo successfully organized a special tourism promotion and awareness campaign at the Embassy premises on 14 December 2025, with the participation of representatives from leading Egyptian travel agencies, prominent airlines, bloggers, and influencers, along with the online participation of Sri Lankan travel agencies and a representative of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
The event featured a comprehensive presentation by Trade Assistant of the Mission, on Sri Lanka’s tourism, Omar Hamdy, highlighting the country’s unique blend of natural beauty, pristine beaches, historical attractions, rich cultural heritage, wildlife, Ceylon Tea, Sri Lankan cuisine, and warmth hospitality.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Sisira Senavirathne emphasized Sri Lanka’s resilience and the strong recovery of its tourism sector following the recent natural disaster caused by Cyclone Ditwah, reaffirming the continued growth and confidence in the industry. He noted that although Sri Lanka experienced one of the most severe natural disasters in recent decades when cyclone struck the entire country on 27 November 2025, the authorities effectively managed the situation and no tourists were harmed. All tourist attractions across the island are fully open, safe, and operational, with enhanced safety measures in place. Popular destinations such as the southern coast, Ella, and the hill country continue to receive visitors, and tourism activities remain vibrant.
The Ambassador also highlighted the remarkable growth of Sri Lanka’s tourism sector during the year, noting that the country recorded its highest number of tourist arrivals in recent history. From 1 January to 8 December 2025, Sri Lanka welcomed approximately 2.15 million tourists, with more than 50,000 arrivals during the first week of December alone. November marked the strongest performance for that month in the past five years. He further observed encouraging growth in tourist arrivals from Egypt, stating that by November 2025, a total of 3,877 Egyptian tourists had visited Sri Lanka, including 450 arrivals in November alone, reflecting a positive upward trend compared to previous years.
The Ambassador invited Egyptian travel agencies, airlines, and tourism partners to actively collaborate in promoting Sri Lanka as a safe, vibrant, and thriving tourist destination. Representatives of travel agencies, airlines, and tourism partners shared valuable insights on enhancing the promotion of Sri Lanka’s tourism and expressed their strong support in positioning Sri Lanka as an attractive and dynamic destination.
Participants were served a variety of Sri Lankan finger foods along with Ceylon Tea.
