
The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, Rear Admiral Fred Senevirathne, met with the President, Executive members of the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) in Gujranwala, Punjab Province, on 25 September 2025 at the GCCI Chamber.
High Commissioner Senevirathne was warmly received at the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) by the President, Executive Members, and the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka to Lahore. During the meeting, the President conveyed his and the members’ sincere appreciation to the High Commissioner for his commitment to engaging with the Chamber. The discussion served as a valuable platform to exchange insights on strengthening bilateral trade and investment between Gujranwala and Sri Lanka, and to explore emerging opportunities for economic collaboration between the two countries.
The President of the GCCI further emphasized the importance of strengthening trade relations between Gujranwala, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka as the Chamber looks ahead. He highlighted the value of promoting regular exchanges of trade delegations, facilitating business-to-business (B2B) engagements, organizing exhibitions in both countries, and encouraging reciprocal participation by business leaders. These efforts, he noted, would play a pivotal role in enhancing bilateral trade and investment. He also underscored that executive-level visits can significantly deepen economic ties and foster long-term partnerships between the two nations.
During the discussion, High Commissioner Senevirathne provided an overview of Sri Lanka’s current political and economic landscape, highlighting the new Government’s commitment to good governance and its vision to create greater opportunities for foreign investors. He further outlined the facilities and advantages available to foreign investors in Sri Lanka, emphasizing the Government’s commitment to fostering a competitive and investor-friendly environment.
Finally, the High Commissioner invited Pakistani entrepreneurs and investors to explore opportunities in Sri Lanka’s dynamic sectors, including tourism and leisure, information technology, agriculture, apparel, export manufacturing, education, export services, and infrastructure. He also noted that the Sri Lankan business community is eager to strengthen its engagement with Pakistan’s vibrant industries, fostering mutually beneficial partnerships between the two nations.
