Sri Lanka High Commission in London hosts “Sri Lanka: Through Me” Tourism Promotion Event

The Sri Lanka High Commission in London, in collaboration with the British Guild of Travel Writers (BGTW) and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, organised a tourism promotion event titled “Sri Lanka: Through Me” on 25 September 2025 at the High Commission premises. The event welcomed many British travel writers and tourism enthusiasts, offering an engaging platform to share Sri Lanka’s diverse experiences and opportunities.

In a warm welcome to guests, the High Commissioner highlighted Sri Lanka’s honor in hosting 34 renowned travel writers earlier this year. These storytellers explored the island through three distinct and thoughtfully curated travel themes, capturing its essence through vivid photography and immersive narratives. The event celebrated their creative contributions, which brought Sri Lanka’s rich culture, natural beauty, and heritage to global audiences.

Highlighting the economic and strategic impact of tourism, the High Commissioner emphasised the multiple pillar effect on Sri Lanka’s value chain that leads to Sri Lankan farmers with the world. This uplifts the lives of villagers in Sri Lanka through tourism, from hotels and travel services to local agriculture. He further stated that, this direct access not only benefits farmers but also generates employment opportunities for local villagers, many of whom work in the hospitality sector.

The event also featured remarks by Chair of the BGTW, Chris Coe who shared his interpretation of Sri Lanka’s tourism potential. He highlighted the country’s rich diversity, noting how the island offers a combination of cultural heritage, natural beauty, and authentic experiences that make it a compelling destination for travellers.

The panel also featured Jane Wilson, Olly Beckett, and Debbie North, who shared their experiences of Sri Lanka’s heritage, nature, and accessibility. Broadcaster and writer Shebs Alom also contributed to the evening with a specially curated video, capturing the richness of Sri Lanka’s food and culture. Guests then savoured a traditional Sri Lankan dinner, reflecting the country’s renowned hospitality.
