The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Pretoria convened a virtual meeting with all Honorary Consuls accredited to the Mission on 25 August 2025.
High Commissioner Air Chief Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa (Retd) extended his appreciation to the Honorary Consuls for their continued support to Sri Lankans within their jurisdictions. He briefed them on the Government’s priorities regarding the African continent, highlighting its natural resources, economic potential, and growing importance in multilateral relations. The High Commissioner also outlined the Government’s Thriving Nation – Beautiful Life policy, focusing on rural poverty alleviation, the digital economy, and the Clean Sri Lanka initiative.
The Honorary Consuls shared insights on opportunities and challenges in their respective host countries, including investment prospects in agriculture, tourism, renewable energy, and mining. They also highlighted the potential to expand trade and people-to-people links, as well as initiatives in sports diplomacy.
In conclusion, the High Commissioner encouraged the Honorary Consuls to develop action plans for strengthening trade, investment, and tourism relations with Sri Lanka in the year ahead and to submit brief reports on bilateral opportunities in their jurisdictions.
