The Consul General of Sri Lanka in Toronto Thushara Rodrigo participated in the celebration of the International Buddhist Day held on April 8, 2025 at the West End Buddhist Vihara in Toronto.

Venerable Buddhist monks from the Buddhist temples of China, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Japan, Cambodia, Laos and the numbers of several city councils in Ontario attended the event.

A special religious ceremony was conducted by the Chief Incumbent of the West End Buddhist Vihara, the most venerable Dhammawasa Nayaka Thero, remembering the victims of the earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand.

The Consul General highlighted the importance of recognizing an International Buddhist Day in Canada similar to the recognition of other religions in the country. Also, he elaborated the contribution of Buddhism to promote humanity, peace, love and compassion among the people across the globe and its inspiration to promote the democratic values of our societies.
