Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Jordan, J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara engaged in discussions with Minister of Culture of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Mostafa Al-Rawashdeh on enhancing cultural cooperation between the two countries, on 20 February 2025. The Ambassador also made it an opportunity to congratulate the Minister Mostafa Al-Rawashdeh on his new appointment as the Minister.
During the meeting, Ambassador Wijegunasekara emphasized the enduring friendly relations between Sri Lanka and the Kingdom of Jordan and highlighted the strengths and potential to further consolidate the long-standing and bilateral cooperation in multiple spheres, including political, economic, cultural, labour, and people-to-people contacts. She further stated that this year will mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, expressing hope of bolstering cooperation and partnership throughout the year.
Both parties exchanged views on various areas of common interest, including cultural exchanges between the two countries. In order to implement joint projects and exchange experiences in the field of culture, the possibility of finalizing an executive program in accordance with the Cultural Cooperation Agreement signed between the two countries in 2007, at the earliest opportunity was explored at the meeting.
Minister Mostafa Al-Rawashdeh stressed Jordan's willingness to increase cooperation and coordination frameworks in order to develop joint cultural programs that contribute to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Minister also referred to the projects that the Ministry is working on, including those related to preserving heritage, indicating the importance of culture in promoting common human values, and the need to spread a culture of joy through the arts to preserve long-lasting peace.
Ambassador Wijegunasekara appreciated Jordan's pivotal role in the region, pointing out its joint cooperation in managing regional issues, and in implementing several joint projects that benefit the peoples of the region.
