High Commission of Sri Lanka in Maldives commemorates 77th anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Maldives, together with the Sri Lankan community in Maldives celebrated the 77th anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka on 04 February 2025 at Social Center, “Haruge” Hall.

The event commenced with the hosting of the national flag, followed by the playing of the National Anthem of Sri Lanka. Multi-faith religious observances, including Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam, were also conducted. This was followed by a moment of silence in remembrance of the war heroes and other national heroes who have sacrificed their lives in defense of the Motherland.

The Independence Day messages of President Anura Kumara Disanayaka, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath were delivered in Sinhala, English and Tamil respectively.

Promotional materials highlighting Sri Lanka, as well as materials on government policies including the Clean Sri Lanka National Programme were showcased during the event.

The ceremony concluded with the serving of refreshments to all the guests who participated in the celebration.
