The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing, together with the members of the Sri Lankan community, including students, celebrated the Deepavali festival in Beijing.
The special Deepavali message from Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, National Integration, Social Security and Mass Media, Vijitha Herath was read out at the event, extending wishes for Deepavali. The message highlighted that the Hindu community celebrates this auspicious event to commemorate the day on which Thiru, with the help of Thirumal defeated Narakasuran, and that it is a celebration of the day which righteousness became victor over wickedness, wisdom defeated ignorance.
Welcoming all gathered at the Embassy, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to China, Majintha Jayesinghe emphasized that Deepavali, the celebration of triumph of light over darkness not only holds religious significance, but also conveys a universal message that everyone can embrace.
Deepavali, with its rich cultural heritage, unites all Sri Lankans living abroad while fostering a shared sense of humanity. Such celebrations build bridges of understanding and respect that transcend the boundaries of race, religion and culture.
