Chinese School Children visit the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing

Seventy seven school children aged between 8 to 15 years from Hebei, Chongqing, Tianjin and Shangdon provinces visited the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing on 21 January 2019 as a public diplomacy activity organized by the Embassy.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to China Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku, welcomed the students and the teachers and emphasized the importance of their visit to the Embassy since it provides them with a good understanding about Sri Lanka.  Students were highly interested in getting to know about the Sri Lankan Education system from the Ambassador.  Second Secretary Inoka Weerasinghe provided an overview of the social, cultural and geographical aspects of Sri Lanka while third Secretary (Tea Promotions) Sampath Perera  discussed about uniqueness and health benefits of Ceylon Tea.

A speech contest was also organized among the Chinese students to create interest among them about Sri Lanka and winners were awarded certificates. Two Sri Lankan students were also arranged to speak about China to create an interacting environment among the Chinese and Sri Lankan students. Further, dance and music items performed by students attracted the audience. Sri Lankan savories and sweets served with tea were very much enjoyed by the students.
