65th Independence Day Celebration in Dubai

Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai commemorated 65th Anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka at grand scale in Dubai this year.

Official ceremony comprised of hosting the national flag, lighting the traditional oil lamp and rendering of the National Anthem, blessing of four major religions (Buddhism, Hindu, Islam and Christianity) and reading of messages of H.E. the President, Hon Prime Minister and Hon Minister of External Affairs was held in the Consulate premises on the morning of 4th February 2013.

Consul General hosted the National Flag in presence of a large gathering of Sri Lankan expatriates in Dubai.

To mark 65th Anniversary, the Sri Lanka Consulate in Dubai, brought out 06 pages newspaper supplement in Kaleej Times highlighting Sri Lanka’s potential for foreign investment, trade opportunities and the tourism attractions.

Consul General Abdul Raheem also organized a Dinner Reception inviting high ranking UAE officials, diplomatic community, Emiratis, businessmen and Sri Lankan Community members on 5th February 2013 at Le Meridian Hotel, Dubai.

His Excellency Hamid Mohammed Al Qutami, Education Minister of UAE was the Chief Guest and large members of Diplomatic Corp, Businessmen, Sri Lankans attended the dinner reception. Sri Lankan traditional cultural items were performed by local talents and two return air tickets with two night holiday package was given to winners of the raffle.

Consul General in his remarks mentioned that in the Gulf region, UAE is the largest export market for Sri Lanka, the largest source of imports to Sri Lanka, and the largest investor in Sri Lanka. UAE is also home for a large number of Sri Lankan expatriate among Gulf countries. Due to the political stability and the permanent peace in the country, Sri Lanka is now most sought destination for trade, economic and political interaction for international community and global partners.
