A three day colorful cultural presentation focusing Sri Lanka “Sri Lanka Cultural Days” kicked off on Saturday 29th of September, at the Kuwait National Museum as part of an on-going cultural extravaganza. The event, hosted by the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), was a prelude to the upcoming First Asian Cooperation Dialogue Summit to be held in Kuwait in mid October. Number of Asian countries were invited to showcase their cultural heritage including events, products and tourism attractions.

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Kuwait, C A H M Wijeratne, thanked the NCCAL for the opportunity to showcase Sri Lanka at this event. He appreciated the initiative of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, to hold such an event depicting the Asian cultural heritage. “We are here to present our cultural heritage along with other member countries. Indeed, we are happy to be a part of this big event,” the Ambassador stated.

The Ambassador stated that he had invited dancers from the Channa-Upuli Performing Dance Foundation, one of the accomplished cultural groups, back home in Sri Lanka to perform during the three-day event dedicated to the island nation. “They are here to perform and entertain not just the Sri Lankans but the multi-ethnic society represented in Kuwait, he said.

“Bilateral cooperation is not just limited to the political realm, trade and investments but, most importantly, we believe it also involves people-to-people contact which is a fundamental part of cooperation and dialogue. That is why we are happy to be part of this beautiful event”, he added.

The dancers under the direction of Channa Wijewardena mesmerized the audience at the Souq Sharq and Al-Kout Mall for two consecutive nights .Local electronic and print media covered the event and it was telecasted live over Kuwait TV and other Arabic TV Channels.
