The 63rd Anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka was celebrated with two events on 4th February 2011 by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The morning programme was attended by the Hony. Consul for Sri Lanka in Medan, Mr. Joefly Bahroeny and his spouse, the Hony. Consul for Sri Lanka in Bali, Mr. Eswentis Sanato and his spouse, and a cross section of Sri Lankans living in Indonesia.
The Letter of Credence was presented to the Hony. Consul in Bali by H.E. the Ambassador at this event, although he was functioning as Sri Lanka’s Hony. Consul in Bali since 2010.
Addressing the audience, the Ambassador highlighted the significance of the 63rd Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence where the People of Sri Lanka now enjoy the full benefits of the termination of the internal conflict at a time where Industries, Tourism Projects, Avenues for Employment, etc. is being enjoyed by all.
The Ambassador thanked the Indonesian Government for enhanced bilateral relations and emphasized the several bilateral high level visits that took place, the last of which being the visit of the Indonesian Minister of Fisheries and Marine Affairs to Sri Lanka in February 2011. The ceremony culminated with the guests partaking in traditional Sri Lankan food.
The Ambassador hosted an Evening Reception at Gran Melia Hotel, Jakarta, for about 300 guests including the Diplomatic Corps, Senior Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, High Officials from the Indonesian Corporate Sector as well as members of the Sri Lankan community.
H.E. Triyono Wibowo, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and Mrs. Wibowo graced the occasion as the Chief Guests.
