Approximately one thousand Sri Lankan – American community members and distinguished invitees including United States Congressmen , senior government officials and Washington based Ambassadors witnessed the biggest Sri Lankan cultural event held outside of Sri Lanka.

Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kathmandu celebrated Sri Lanka’s 65th National Day on 4th February 2013. The Embassy held two functions to celebrate the event in Kathmandu. The morning celebrations were held at the Embassy premises with the hoisting of the national flag by His Excellency Mr. W.M. Senevirathna, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Nepal and followed by the national anthem. Traditional oil lamp was lighted by the Ambassador and some invited guests.
