In memory of the late Mrs. Anula Ratnayake and Mr. Sujith Yatawara Bandara, the two Sri Lankans who lost their lives in the attack on Israel on 07 October last year, 1000 saplings were planted in Israel and Sri Lanka on 07 October 2024.
The main ceremony of the tree-planting program was held at the official residence of the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Israel under the theme "For the Two Lives We Lost, A Breath from Us".
Representing the government of Israel, Member of the ruling Likud Party and President of the Israel - Sri Lanka Parliamentary Friendship Association Tsega Melaku attended the event, along with two Israeli Parliamentary Advisors. The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Israel Nimal Bandara was also present on the occasion.
In parallel, a tree planting ceremony was held in Sri Lanka, with the participation of the mother and husband of the late Mrs. Anula Ratnayake, as well as the wife and children of the late Mr. Sujith Yatawara Bandara. In addition, 100 medicinal plants were planted at the Galle Thittagalla Meth Bo Sevana Aranya Senasana, as part of the commemoration program. Moreover, the Israel - Sri Lanka Cooperation Organization in Sri Lanka conducted a few tree-planting initiatives at various locations. Members of the Sangha and youth groups also took part in the program.
