The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Berlin celebrated Vesak at the Official Residence on 29 May 2022 with the participation of the members of the Sri Lanka Association in Germany, disciples of Das Buddhistische Haus in Berlin and the staff of the Embassy.
Venerable Olande Ananda Thero from the Netherlands and Ven. Pelane Dhamma Kusala Thero, of Das Buddhistische Haus, Frohanau conducted the religious observances with a special Dhamma sermon on the topic of “ "mindfulness - an all-time necessity". The programme also entailed offering of alms and conferring merits to the Sri Lankan community living in Germany as well as all Sri Lankans at home.
Venerable Maha Sangha specially offered blessings for every Sri Lankan citizen to emerge strongly through the prevailing challenging socio-political and economic situation in the country.
Ambassador Manori Unambuwe welcoming the participants elaborated on the contextual significance of the celebrations of the International Day of Vesak for Buddhists across the globe especially at a time when the world is dealing with various man-made challenges. Addressing the audience, Mr Tissa Weeraratne of Das Buddhistische Haus, Frohnau shared the work of the Das Buddhistische Haus in Germany and the history of Buddhism in Germany in chronological order.
A decorative ambience at the Sri Lanka house with Buddhist flags and lightings made the event simple and colourful in keeping with the traditions of Vesak celebrations.
