Sri Lankans in Israel celebrate Sinhala and Tamil New Year

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tel Aviv in collaboration with the Sri Lankan community groups namely Jerusalem Cricket Club and the Jerusalem Youth Organization organized Sinhala and Tamil new year festivities at the Sacher Park in Jerusalem on 13 April 2024.  Over 2000 Sri Lankans living in Israel and Israeli nationals attended the event.

The new year festival included traditional new year games and cultural performances. Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Israel Nimal Bandara, Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Haifa and Northern Israel Anat Bernstein-Reich, a representative of the Neema Bank in Israel and members of the Sri Lankan business community also attended the opening ceremony.

Popular Sri Lankan artists Priyantha Senevirathne and Piyumi Bojetu  as well as prominent television personality Harindra Jayalal were specially flown from Sri Lanka to perform at the festival.
