The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia presented the arts and culture of Sri Lanka at ‘Art Mir’, an arts exhibition, in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia on 27 January 2024.
The Art Mir Exhibition collected thousands of artworks by contemporary artists, such as paintings, graphic arts, sculpture, etc. A special section of the Exhibition was devoted to pieces of art of foreign countries represented by Sri Lanka, South Korea and Armenia.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka exhibited traditional Sri Lankan batik paintings, musical instruments and other cultural items, which introduced the Russian public to the culture and history of the island. All the exhibits had descriptive plates which allowed visitors have a better understanding.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, took part as the guest of honour at the Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition on 26 January 2024 . The event was also attended by, Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod region Olga Guseva, Deputy Minister of Culture Mikhail Pelchenkov , Curators of the Exhibition and Coordinators of the International Zone.
Ambassador Liyanage also engaged in a roundtable discussion on Diplomacy and Art, in the course of which the participants shared their views on the influence of art and humanitarian cooperation on relations between people.
The coordinators of the Art Project Through Artist’s Eyes; Cultural Advisor of the Russian Association of International Cooperation Daria Karacheva,. Artur Mirzoyan and Tatyana Dvoryadkina, supported and organized the event.
The Exhibition will remain open to the public at the Nizhny Novgorod Fair from 27 January to 4 February 2024.
