Sri Lanka and Thailand reassures partnership in bilateral and multilateral spheres

Ambassador of Sri Lanka Samantha K. Jayasuriya, called on Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Don Pramudwinai, and during their discussion, ways to consolidate cooperation in bilateral and multilateral relations between the two countries were highlighted.

Both Sri Lanka and Thailand cooperated and facilitated the repatriation of their citizens stranded in each other's countries due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation. Both Sri Lanka and Thailand, through robust and effective control and prevention measures, and efficient responses from the respective health sectors have been able to successfully contain the spread of the virus, including low rates of mortalities.

As the two countries are looking forward to revitalizing the economy, tourism and normal livelihoods, the Foreign Minister and Ambassador assured on close cooperation, both bilaterally and in the multilateral fora.

They also discussed the next Joint Political Consultations between the two countries, Sri Lanka's submission to ASEAN to become a Sectoral Dialogue Partner (SDP), as well as the next BIMSTEC Summit, which, Sri Lanka is scheduled to host as the current Chair, and during which, the stewardship of this regional group that bridges South Asia and South East Asia, will be handed over to Thailand.

The Ambassador was accompanied by Head of Chancery Poornima Gunasekera, Counsellor (Commerce) Anil Sirimanna and Second Secretary Saritha Ranatunga while Deputy Director General Madam Dao Vibulpanich, Chief of Staff Prapenpim Prachonpachanuk, Director Cheevindh Nathalang and Sri Lanka Desk Officer Ekavit Komonphaew were associated with the Hon. Minister.
