Korea-South Asia Inter-parliamentary Diplomacy Forum launched in Seoul

The Korea - South Asia Inter-parliamentary Diplomacy Forum, initiated by Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Moon Hee Sang, was launched at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea on 18 July 2019, with the intention of strengthening inter-parliamentary diplomacy with the South Asian countries.

The Members of the Parliamentary Friendship groups of five selected countries in South Asia namely Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka were the initial members of the newly established Inter-parliamentary Diplomacy Forum.

Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Moon Hee Sang, Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Diplomacy Forum, Won Hye-young together with the members of the Forum, Heads of Mission of the selected five South Asian Countries and academia were among the participants of the launching ceremony.

Delivering the congratulatory remarks at the launching ceremony, Chargé d’ Affaires of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Republic of Korea, Jagath Abeywarna extended his sincere appreciation to the Government of the Republic of Korea, especially to Speaker Moon Hee-sang and Chairman Won Hye-young, for the timely initiative of establishing the Inter-Parliamentary Diplomacy Forum on the basis of the President Moon’s ‘New Southern Policy’.
