The commemoration of the 2600th Anniversary of the Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi was organized by the Embassy with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Welfare Association and the Sri Lankan expatriate community in Israel.
A full day's progamme for the observance of vesak religious activities took place from 7.00 a.m. to 7.00p.m. on 21st May 2011. Ven. Ethkandure Sumanasara Thero and Ven. Yakelle Sunanda Thero were invited from Sri Lanka to conduct the religious observances. A large number of Sri Lankans observed Ata Sil.
Addressing the gathering Ambassador Donald Perera emphasized the special significance of Vesak, commemorating the celebration of the 2600th Sambuddhata Jayanthi. At the end of the religious programmes a group of Sri Lankans performed Bakthi Gee.
During the week long celebrations, the Embassy premises was decorated colourfully and illuminated with Vesak lanterns, Buddhist flags and other decorations.
