Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Celebration in Mumbai

The 2600th Anniversary of Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi was celebrated at the Sri Lanka Consulate General in Mumbai.

To mark the event, the staff of the Consulate General organized a “Dhamma sermon” followed by an ‘alms giving’ to the Buddhist priests of the Mahindar Vihar Temple in Ulhasnagar on 27th and 28th May 2011. Dhamma sermon was conducted by Venerable Dr. Ananda Mahathero, Chief Incumbent of the Mahindar Vihar Temple in Ulhasnagar.

The Dhamma  sermon organized at the Consulate was attended by  the Sri Lanka’s living in Mumbai and the personnel from the Sri Lanka forces who are currently in Mumbai attending long term training programmes. In a brief address Reve Ananda Thero noted the significance of the 2600th Anniversary of the Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi on the Vesak Poya Day of this year.

The Consulate premises were colorfully decorated with Buddhist flags and illuminated with lights  by the Mission staff.

According to Rev Ananda Thero, this is the first Dhamma sermon held at the Sri Lanka Consulate General to celebrate Vesak with the participation of Sri Lankan's residing in Mumbai.
