Sri Lankan Christian community in the greater Washington area gathered at the Embassy of Sri Lanka, Washington on Friday (Dec 13) to celebrate Christmas. Once again, the embassy organized Thanksgiving prayers, Christmas choir and dinner for the guests, in keeping with its long unbroken tradition of celebrating the important events of all four major religions in Sri Lanka.

1. At the invitation of His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta, His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka graced the celebrations commemorating the Golden Jubilee Anniversary of Kenya’s independence on 12th December, 2013.
2. His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapaksa also cordially accepted to pay a two day state visit after the Jubilee celebrations on 13th and 14thDecember, 2013. This is the very first State Visit to Kenya by a Head of State of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka High Commission in Singapore celebrates Christmas
The Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore organised an event on the 8th of December 2013 at The Church of our Saviour to celebrate Christmas.
Her Excellency Ferial Ismail Ashraff, High Commissioner welcomed the guests and in her address, while appreciating the joy of Christmas, urged the audience to reflect on the message of peace and love preached by Jesus Christ which would result in co-existence. She also stated that “every step taken to understand another human being would result in peace’’. She specifically highlighted the efforts made by all members of the mission and appreciated the togetherness of the mission staff which brings about success in all events. A special word of thanks was also offered to the church community for their participation and cooperation.

Deepavali Celebrated in the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra, Australia
