On 19 of February 2020, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Viet Nam Prasanna Gamage called on the Minister of Public Security of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, Senior Lieutenant General, Professor To Lam, at the Ministry of Public Security of Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
The Ambassador was welcomed by Senior Lieutenant General Prof. To Lam to the Ministry of Public Security, who conveyed his greetings and best wishes to the newly appointed Ambassador for a successful tenure in Ha Noi. Snr. Lt. Gen Prof. Lam expressed his great satisfaction on the existing close bilateral cooperation between Defence and Police Forces of Viet Nam and Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Gamage, in his response, while thanking the Minister for providing an opportunity for the meeting, congratulated Viet Nam for being the Chair of ASEAN for 2020 and becoming a non-permeant member of the UN Security Council for the period 2020 – 2021. The Ambassador acknowledged the continuing excellent cooperation between the two countries in security related activities, and emphasized that the relationship should be further strengthened in the future.
Senior Lt. Gen. Prof. Lam and Ambassador Gamage extensively discussed the modalities of the official visits to be undertaken by Political Leaders and Senior Officials of the Ministry of Public Security of Viet Nam to Sri Lanka this year, and agreed that existing cooperation in the fields of security and policing should be elevated to a comprehensive partnership between the two countries.
Third Secretary/Commercial of the Embassy Prasadi Boomawalage assisted the Ambassador and Major General To An Xo, Head of the Minister’s Office, Major General Dr. Nguyen Thanh Son, Deputy Director General, Department of Foreign Relations and Colonel Le Hoang Duong, Head, Major Vu Van Len, Deputy Head and Senior Lieutenant Ha Thuy Trang, Desk Officer, of America, Africa, West and South Asia Division, Department of Foreign Relations of the Ministry of Public Security assisted the Minister during the meeting.
